Question
Hi, I'm 31 have a 3yr old and a 19mnth old.I wanted to donate blood last week but my iron didn't even register on the monitor and was told not to donate for a year. I'm also very tired & dizzy sometimes & my nose bleeds alot at times,& if I'm just a little sick I get kidney infection. Any suggestions.
Answer
The best source of dietary iron is liver, followed by other organ meats and seafoods, lean meat, poultry and fish. the best plant sources are dried beans and veggies. You also get iron from egg yolks, dried fruits, whole wheat products and foods that are enriched. It is beneficial to have some vitamin C rich food at the same time as vitamin C enhances absorption. Your doctor may prescribe supplements or other forms of treatment
