An initiative originating with two volunteers, Thomas Msiya and Dolphus Msia, who became extremely concerned at the desperate plight of the Hillbrow street children.
There are over 650 street children in Hillbrow alone. The ages range from as young as two years old to 19. There are many 8 and 9 year olds taking responsibility for younger siblings and other little friends.
Thomas and Dolphus believed that if they could focus the street children on a popular game such as soccer and coach them in this sport, it would assist them to begin to adapt to a normal life and encourage them not to commit crime.
Coaching takes place twice a week with matches arranged over the weekend wherever possible. Transman became involved in this project some 4 years ago and supported the street children with soccer outfits, soccer boots and the likes.
In recent months the project has developed to feeding a select number of street children, encouraging them to go return to school, namely the New Nation School for the Homeless, and further developing their soccer skills.
Matches have been arranged with SAP and other supportive organisations. In addition to the soccer kit sponsorship by Transman, the company's CEO, Angela Dick, provides a weekly monetary sponsorship to Rainbow.
Together with Thomas and Dolphus Transman is working towards providing a more stable home environment for these children – i.e. providing them with a home in which to live, food to eat, transport to and from school and their match games.
Transman is always looking for Sponsors to assist in any aspect of the project.
