Grooming your lady garden is a big deal these days. Before you head off to the beautician for a wax, make sure you know what is what so you don't land up with a 'hair style' that makes you blush...
Here is the skinny on the different styles...
Au Natural
This style is really all natural. There is no trimming and no maintenance. Natural woman!
Trimmed
Hair length is shortened and trimmed but not removed or shaped.
Triangle
Hair is removed (generally waxed) from the sides to form a triangle so that pubic hair cannot be seen while wearing swimwear. This can range from the very edge of the "bikini line" to up to an inch reduction on either side. Hair length can be from an inch and a half to half an inch. If you going to be wearing a cozzie best you prepare!
Landing strip
The 'landing strip' is very popular among South African women and is also known as a 'Brazilian'. Hair is sharply removed from the sides to form a long thin centered vertical rectangle. Hair length is about quarter of an inch. If you travelling in the United States keep in mind the Brazilian isn't a landing strip, it's all off!
The Chaplin
This style is very similar to the landing strip but it is shorter and square.
G-wax
Pubic hair completely removed except for a very thin remnant, centered, narrow stripe above the vulva approximately an inch in height, and the hair length in the sub-centimetre range. South African salons don't have a specific name for this style so be sure to articulate exactly what you want.
The Hollywood
The Hollywood is also refered to as the Full Monty and a full Brazilian and pubic hair completely removed.
Fauxhawk
Hair is styled in a Mohawk fashion without shaving the hair.
Mohawk
Take a walk on the wild side! This style means waxing the hair on the left and right, leaving the middle to be spiked.
The Bull
This involves trimming all the hair very short except for a small perpetual long patch. This is very popular hairstyle among lesbian women.
Other popular requests include dyeing the hair fun and funky colours. V- shaped, heart-shaped, arrow, initials, are also very popular!
A word of caution ladies... whatever style you choose, make sure you communicate exactly what you want to whoever is doing the waxing. If you don't you may leave the salon with more-or less-than you bargained for.

| The most important thing is to have a good relationship with your therapist. Hollywood works for me... But my therapist left and i had a replacement therapist but it was the worst experience! IM SHAVING for now till i get a therapist im comfortable with. | ||

| My therapist is great! I do a full hollywood every 8 or so weeks. I am so comfortable with her, she makes it easy! The only thing i hate are the major, sometimes painful, ingrown hairs - if anyone can suggest a cream for that - THANKS! | ||

| Tarryn, to answer you question - Clearasil cream - the white stuff, not the gel. It works like a treat, for prevention and treating. Also exfoiliation as prevention - a little bit of liquid soap or moisturizer, a handful of sugar and water, | ||

| After reading about all the torture women put themselves through having their neither regions waxed, I am so happy that I have no hair at all!! Zip, Nada, niks down there or under my armpits. I always thought I was a freak until my mum said 'oh no, aunty so and so had the same thing'. So it must be hereditary. Even so, I'm really happy I don't have to expose myself to a therapist. I love reading these columns. | ||

| Johanna - you lucky woman!!! I'm on shaving at the moment after getting a horrible ingrown hair from waxing that became infected. My doctor had to put me on antibiotics and I had to use a a strong antibacterial gel. The bump is now gone, but it's left a terrible dark scar. I am in such grief about my bikini line. But I think I'll go back to waxing and buy myself clearisil for down there too!! | ||
